So recently instead of doing a Kickstarter for Platinum Arts Sandbox Free 3D Game Maker, I was thinking about trying to get it on Steam. The reason is that if it keeps doing well I could continue to pay a coder or two to keep moving Sandbox along and modeler too to bring in assets that the community can use commercially. With the Kickstarter it would be mainly a one time shot but hopefully on Steam it would bring in a flow of money so Sandbox can keep on growing. I’d like to keep it cheap, around $5 as Steam won’t let us put it on there for free. Also it would be the newer and improved graphics engine version that hasn’t been released yet. Sandbox of course would still be Open Source and available to be used commercially, in fact the plan would be to have all content be able to be used commercially. I’d love to eventually hire a few coders too so they could focus on growing the FPS, RPG, Sidescroller mode, and Vehicle modes and perhaps each take an area. Also I’d hopefully have more money to add in bigger features that the community has been asking for such as more powerful physics. As a note the older graphic engine version will still of course be free and I also plan to keep the development version still open to the public. I think having a budget is a huge deal because it is very hard to get good quality volunteers but if I can afford to pay them then everyone wins because we’re are getting new features and improvements to the engine while the coders are happy because they are getting a money return. Since I work with kids I unfortunately can’t afford to pay for it out of my own pocket so I think this is the best logical solution. Any other ideas are certain welcome too!
With the Steam version EVERYTHING in it would be able to be used commercially!!
Please let me know what you think in the Steam Forum Post and if you would support such a project! Take care and have an awesome day!
